Proudest telecoms moment

I have been in telecoms now for 26 years or so and over the years I have been very fortunate, I have worked with some fantastic people and some will hopefully remain as friends for ever or BFF as my daughter calls them! I have had some fantastic bosses that I have huge respect for and they have taught me a lot. I have learnt a lot from the bosses that weren’t so good too, but that’s another story

I have been fortunate enough to have had all expenses trips to Lake Maggiore, Caiscas in Portugal, La Manga golfing as well as many UK trips. I have been up the BT tower in London and watched the Red Arrows fly past at the same time. I have trained a wide variety of people to sell telecoms over the years, including engineers, customer service staff, financial advisors and even ex-publicans, some of whom have gone on to be millionaires (and good luck to them), some have gone on to be managers and directors of other organisations, which is also fantastic.

I think it is fair to say that there are lots of things that anyone would be proud of and obviously I am, but also (and more importantly) very grateful to people that gave me the opportunities to do these things in the first place. However, my proudest moment in telecoms has to be what happened a few weeks ago. I sat in a meeting with Carol, our franchisee from Wiltshire talking to the MD of a company that has 21 sites, where they want us provide a telephony solution across all sites. Carol completely controlled the meeting as if she had been in the industry for 26 years, explaining the procedure for site surveys and how we provide individual solutions for each site to combine the roll out across the group. The MD was clearly impressed and so was I, the solution recommended was perfect and we are moving forward with things much to the delight of everyone concerned.

But why, (I hear you ask) would this be your proudest moment in telecoms? Well, Carol joined us just 12 months ago with her partner Will as our first franchisee based in Wiltshire and she had absolutely no experience in telecoms whatsoever, she was a teacher, which for me is as far removed from telecoms as being a welder, nothing against welders at all, I was one!! So to see her control that meeting and not be phased by any technical questions, made me feel very proud. Therefore, I say ‘WELL DONE CAROL’ you should feel very proud too.
